$200m-backed Multimedia Music acquires catalog of film and TV composer Christopher Lennertz


UK-headquartered Multimedia Music has acquired the complete film and TV music catalog of BMI composer of the year, Christopher Lennertz.

Lennertz is known for his work on scores for films like Horrible Bosses, Sausage Party, Bad Moms, Smurfs: The Lost Village, Alvin and The Chipmunks, and Pitch Perfect 3, among others.

He has also made significant contributions to TV series like The Boys, Lost in Space, and Agent Carter. Lennertz has also composed scores for video games including with notable projects including Medal of Honor, James Bond, The Godfather and the Mass Effect series.

Lennertz’s career spans 30 years and includes collaborations with a range of musical talents includig Kelly Clarkson, Janelle Monae, Nick Jonas, Blake Shelton, and members of The Beastie Boys, among others.

He has earned Emmy nominations and a number of BMI Awards. Recently, Lennertz was honored as a BMI Icon at the 2023 Film, TV & Visual Media Awards.

Beyond his musical endeavors, Lennertz also serves on the board of Education Through Music Los Angeles, The Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation, and Hands Together in Haiti. He initiated the Symphony of Hope project in the aftermath of the 2010 earthquake to rally support from the film music community.

This acquisition expands MMM’s extensive library, which already includes the catalogs of Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Partners, STX Entertainment, Atlantic Screen Music, and those of composers such as James Newton Howard, Tyler Bates, David Buckley, Trevor Morris, Michael Corcoran, Sean Callery, and J. Peter Robinson.

The acquisition of Lennertz’s entire catalog came less than a month after Multimedia Music acquired the music library of Hollywood film company Millennium Media, which will see it co-publishing the catalog with current co-owned and administrator Kobalt Music.

Earlier this year, Multimedia Music closed an eight-figure deal to acquire the music publishing and music master rights from the entire film music library of STX Entertainment, which also included Lennertz’s compositions for films like Bad Moms.

Under the leadership of industry veterans Phil Hope and James Gibb, Multimedia Music specializes in the acquisition and management of copyrights and income streams from music featured in film and TV productions.


Hope previously served as group MD of music for media business Cutting Edge Music and MD of independent firm Anxious Music, while Gibb led Cutting Edge’s US business.

MMM has secured $200 million in two funding rounds from Metropolitan Partners Group, Bardin Hill, Pinnacle Bank, and Regions Bank for the purchase of catalogs of film and TV music rights from production companies, composers, and other rights holders.

Since its launch in late 2021, Multimedia Music has deployed over $150 million for acquisitions. These include a 50% stake in music publishing and master rights from Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Partners, the STX music library, the catalog of James Newton Howard, Atlantic Screen Music’s 48-title film score catalogue, and catalogs from prominent composers Tyler Bates, David Buckley, Michael Corcoran, Trevor Morris, Sean Callery, and J. Peter Robinson.
