The Tony Awards, Broadway’s biggest night of the year, will take place June 16 at the David H. Koch Theater, hosted by Ariana DeBose. ‘Hell’s Kitchen’, a musical inspired by Alicia Keys’ early years in NYC, and ‘Stereophonic’, about a rock group, took the lead with 13 nominations each. ‘Hell’s Kitchen’’s 13 nominations include Best Book of a Musical, Best Costume Design of a Musical, Best Direction of a Musical and Best Musical. The other nominees for Best Musical this season are ‘Illinoise’, ‘The Outsiders’, ‘Suffs’ and ‘Water for Elephants.’ Maleah Joi Moon, who plays Ali in ‘Hell’s Kitchen’, has been nominated for Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in a Musical. The other nominees are Gayle Rankin (‘Cabaret’), Maryann Plunkett (‘Notebook’), Keli O’Hara (‘Days of Wine and Roses’) & Eden Espinosa (‘Lempicka’). Nominees for Best Actor in a Leading Role in a Musical include Eddie Redmayne (‘Cabaret’) and Jonathan Groff (‘Merrily We Roll Along’).
