After one of the worst seasons in over two decades, Brent Venables had his work cut out for him. He needed to show growth and improve the talent on the team. With the Sooners’ schedule, he had to win ballgames.
With a win in a classic Red River Rivalry game, growth in game management, among other facets of being the head coach, and Brent Venables has every reason to smile.
His program isn’t perfect, but they are back on the ascent and showed growth on offense and defense. He recorded his first 10-win season as a head coach. He has plenty of momentum behind him as the Sooners head into bowl season and the offseason.
If something falls Oklahoma’s way that allows them to make it to Arlington to fight for a Big 12 title, Venables’ performance in year two looks even better.
