Why Did The New York Giants Bench Tommy DeVito at Halftime Against the Philadelphia Eagles?

According to AP News, Tommy DeVito sought to establish his brand, filing for a trademark on his Tommy Cutlets nickname, while having aspirations to become the starting quarterback for the New York Giants. Despite charming the NFL with his rapid celebrity rise, DeVito’s dream took a hit when he was benched in the second half of the Giants’ 33-25 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.

It’s tough. It’s just a constant reminder that it’s a business,” DeVito said. “They’re always going to try to find someone to replace you, wherever it is. At the same time, it is a business. It’s your job. I respect it. There’s no hard feelings one way or another.”

The preseason third-stringer was replaced by Tyrod Taylor, and while DeVito still envisions his name on pizzas and pasta, he couldn’t bag an endorsement from his coach, Brian Daboll. Daboll declined to name a starter for the remaining two games of the season, stating the decision to bench DeVito was an attempt to spark the team. Taylor definitely provided that spark with a late-game touchdown, leaving DeVito to watch from the sideline and contemplate his journey back to his parents’ house, where the 25-year-old quarterback resides.
