South African lovers of all things television and Hollywood can make a date with M-Net (DStv Channel 101) for Tuesday, 16 January, when the channel will roll out the red carpet for the most prestigious award ceremony of the year – the 75th Emmy Awards.
The Emmys will be the second major Hollywood party since the simultaneous writers’ and actors’ strikes shut down much of the film and TV industry for six months last year. Initially scheduled to take place in Los Angeles, California, last September, the awards were postponed amid the strikes.
Nominations for the 75th Primetime Emmy Awards were announced last June, just hours before talks between studios and SAG-AFTRA collapsed.

USA Today reports that the last time the awards experienced such a significant delay was in 2001, after the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
South African viewers who would like to witness the glitz and glam in real-time can watch the live broadcast at 03:00. The channel has also scheduled a second broadcast during prime time at 22:00 that same day for those who do not want to interrupt their sleep schedule.
The 75th anniversary of the ceremony will be hosted by American actor and comedian Anthony Anderson (Black-ish, Law & Order) and promises to be a star-studded night of celebration for industry greats.
Anderson recently made headlines on local shores for his extended holiday in the Western Cape, and he was spotted as recently as December.
