Mavericks Set to Play in the NCAA Tournament for the 42nd Time in Program History – Minnesota State University

INDIANAPOLIS — The Minnesota State baseball team has qualified for the NCAA tournament for the 42nd time in program history.

The Mavericks, owners of a 37-18 record, have now qualified for the last five NCAA tournaments. Minnesota State is 82-85 all-time in 41 trips to the post season, including 8 trips to the NCAA Championships (1971, 1979, 1980, 1986, 2010, 2012, 2013, 2014).

“We’re excited to hear our name be called, to be recognized as one of the best teams in the region is a great accomplishment,” said head coach Matt Magers who is making his 14th postseason appearance as the Mavericks skipper. “Our players have earned this opportunity through their daily hard work, dedication, and commitment. It is an extremely competitive bracket, but I feel we are playing our best baseball at the right time.”

Central Missouri is the top seed in the tournament and is followed by Missouri Southern, winners of the MIAA tournament. Arkansas Tech (winners of the GAC) is the three seed, followed by Augustana (winners of the NSIC) as four seed, Central Oklahoma as the five seed and Arkansas Monticello as the six seed. Harding is the seventh seed and Minnesota State is the eighth.

The Mavericks open against Central Missouri on Thursday and are joined in the sub regional by Augustana and Central Oklahoma. Missouri Southern hosts Harding in Joplin and will also host Arkansas Tech and Arkansas Monticello. Game times for the double-elimination tournament have yet to be announced.

The sub-regional champions will advance to a three-game super regional series at the highest remaining seed’s field the following week.
