F1 Canadian GP live updates: Follow race coverage as Verstappen leads

It’s been an action-jammed race so far at the Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve. George Russell converted his starting pole position into first place before Lando Norris took away the lead after sweeping past Max Verstappen and then the Mercedes on Lap 22 of 70. But a safety car triggered by a Logan Sargeant crash remixed the order, putting Verstappen in the lead, followed by Russell, Norris and Piastri.

With 15 laps to go, another safety car threatens to reshuffle the order at the top, with Verstappen leading Norris, Piastri, Russell and Hamilton.

Kevin Magnussen thrilled early on thanks to a start on the full wet tires, but the drying track and clearing weather combined with a poor pit stop to send him back down the order, while Daniel Ricciardo’s undermined his bid for a points finish with a false start that snared him a five-second penalty.
