‘Tennessee Crossroads’ host Joe Elmore dies at 80 | News


MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Joe Elmore, a member of the WHBQ family and the host of “Tennessee Crossroads,” died at 80 Monday morning. 

Elmore’s death came after a long illness. He left behind a son and a daughter. 

After earning a Master of Arts degree in broadcasting and film at the University of Memphis (UofM), Elmore served as the UofM’s media relations direction and as an assistant professor in the journalism department before joining WHBQ as a general assignment reporter, weekend anchor and feature reporter. Elmore spent five years with WHBQ and co-hosted PM Magazine. 

In 1985, Elmore moved to Nashville and began hosting “Tennessee Crossroads” in 1987. The travel show airs on stations across Tennessee and the Southeast and is one of the highest-rated shows in the PBS system.
