Davis Thompson celebrates JDC victory with his wife

SILVIS, Ill. (KWQC) – July 7, 2024, is a day Davis Thompson won’t soon forget. Thompson’s John Deere Classic victory was his first-ever PGA tour win and he set a brand new TPC Deere Run 72-hole record, -28.

After his final shot on the 18th hole, Thompson was looking to celebrate with one specific person in the crowd — his wife, Holly Grace.

“Yeah, it means everything. We’ve had just kind of an up-and-down year this past year,” Davis Thompson said. “Just a lot of things off the golf course happened, but to see her all the emotion came out.”

“Everyone jokes about Davis being so just kept to himself and introverted and so to see him show that much emotion just meant honestly so much to me and it should show everybody just how happy he is that this hard work paid off, and so when you get a little bit of a smile from Davis it goes a long way,” Holly Grace Thompson said. “To have him show that much emotion is truly just awesome for me as his wife. So, I’m excited for him.”

The hot start [to the final round] was great. It kind of just helped me cruise on the back nine and I hit a lot of quality shots on the front nine,” Davis Thompson said. “I didn’t know what the record was. I was just trying to beat everybody at that point, but yeah it’s pretty cool to have that record.”

“It’s just his ability to block out all the noise and really just focus on the task at hand. That’s pretty rare in a fellow that age — 25 years old,” said Joe Etter, Davis Thompson’s caddie. “It doesn’t seem like any moment is too big for him so that’s definitely a big [separating factor] out here.”
