BMI Co-Hosts Music Industry Mixer for Underrepresented Genders with WIF and WCM | News

BMI helped bring together songwriters, filmmakers, musicians and other creatives, on Wednesday, September 20, for a unique cocktail mixer at the Warner Chappell Music offices in Los Angeles. The event – co-hosted with Women in Film (WIF) and Warner Chapell Music (WCM)—was conceived to inspire and promote the hiring of people of underrepresented genders, most specifically those who identify as female, to score, create original songs and collaborate on music for film and television. BMI singer/songwriters Danielle Ponder and Angelina Sherie both performed during the mixer.

According to recent data provided by RedFrame, only 10% of the top 100 films of 2022 included a composer from an underrepresented gender. As such, this event strove to foster increased collaboration among individuals of marginalized backgrounds.
