AAFCA Special Achievement Awards will honor ‘Killers of the Flower Moon,’ Foxxhole Productions, Fatima Robinson, and more.
The African American Film Critics Association (AAFCA) has announced its list of 2024 special achievement honorees, recognising outstanding contributions to the entertainment industry. Notable recipients include the film Killers of the Flower Moon, Jamie Foxx and Datari Turner of Foxxhole Productions, renowned choreographer Fatima Robinson, the late Michael Latt, and filmmaker Deon Taylor. The honorees will be celebrated at the seventh Annual AAFCA Special Achievement Awards luncheon on Sunday, March 3, hosted at the Centennial Room in the Los Angeles Athletic Club in downtown Los Angeles.
Chosen by a dedicated committee, the AAFCA Special Achievement Awards honour individuals across various facets of the film industry, including executives, journalists, actors, crafts artists, and filmmakers. The invitation-only luncheon will recognise outstanding achievements in the cinematic arts, highlighting the diverse talents that contribute both behind and in front of the camera.
Killers of the Flower Moon will receive the Stanley & Karen Kramer Social Justice Award for shedding light on the true story of the infamous Osage Nation murders.
Jamie Foxx and Datari Turner, the producing duo behind Foxxhole Productions, will be presented with AAFCA’s Producers Award in recognition of their exceptional work on three high-profile films released in 2023: They Cloned Tyrone, Story Ave, and The Burial.
Renowned choreographer Fatima Robinson will be honoured with AAFCA’s Salute to Excellence Award, celebrating her outstanding contributions to the art of choreography, particularly for her work on The Color Purple in 2024.
The late Michael Latt will be honoured with the inaugural Freedom Award, recognising his legacy as a marketing strategist, thought leader, and founder of Lead With Love. His advocacy for amplifying underrepresented stories through the cinematic arts will be celebrated at the event, with his family accepting the honour on his behalf.
Filmmaker Deon Taylor will receive the Horizon Award, spotlighting and celebrating rising talent. Known for directing films like The Intruder and Fatale, Taylor’s upcoming projects include Free Agents for Tristar and biopics on civil rights activist and congressman John Lewis and boxer Floyd Mayweather.
Delta Airlines will be presented with AAFCA’s Film Advocate Award in recognition of its commitment to diversity in entertainment, as reflected in the programming offered aboard Delta flights and its support for emerging filmmakers.
AAFCA President and Co-Founder Gil Robertson said: “Our list this year includes titans and trailblazers whose work has transformed the cinematic arts. Their work leaves us in awe of their incredible achievements and inspires us to move forward in all our endeavours with passion, creativity and determination. AAFCA looks forward to celebrating them.”
