All-female mariachi, Mariachi Reyna de Los Ángeles Offers Free Shows | Arts & Entertainment


¡Viva el Arte de Santa Bárbara! (Viva) will present three free community performances in January by America’s first all-female mariachi, Mariachi Reyna de Los Ángeles.

A collaboration between UCSB Arts & Lectures, the Marjorie Luke Theatre, Guadalupe-Nipomo Dunes Center, and Isla Vista School Parent Teacher Association,

Viva brings the rich cultural heritage of Latin America to Santa Barbara County community members and students. The local shows will be at the following dates and locations:

Friday, Jan. 19, 7 p.m. at Isla Vista School, 6875 El Colegio Road, Goleta.
Saturday, Jan. 20, 7 p.m. at Guadalupe City Hall, 918 Obispo St., Guadalupe.
Sunday, Jan. 21, 6 p.m. at Marjorie Luke Theatre, 721 E. Cota St., Santa Barbara.

Blazing a trail for women in a male-dominated musical genre, Mariachi Reyna de Los Angeles brings sensitivity, beauty and spirit to the historic art of mariachi.

Established in 1994, the group had a strong start thanks to the mentorship of Lola Bertran, La Reina de La Musica Ranchera.

Mariachi Reyna de Los Angeles has recorded three albums, shared the stage with top musicians like Vicki Carr, Guadalupe Pineda and Lucha Villaed and perform for celebrities including Tom Cruise, Oprah Winfrey, and Barack and Michelle Obama.
