Every year, the Governors Awards present honorary Oscars to people who have made extraordinary achievements in cinema and “exceptional contributions to the state of motion picture arts and sciences.” The recognition is considered the most prestigious of them all within the global film industry. The event is considered the first major stop for the upcoming season’s Oscar contenders.
This year, an honorary Oscar went to the late Quincy Jones—the first Black producer to be nominated for Best Picture. Legendary casting director Juliet Taylor was also honored, as were screenwriter and director Richard Curtis, and James Bond producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli.
Waves of other industry figures showed up to the starry event celebrating film. Among our favorite celebrities who hit the red carpet were Angelina Jolie, Jennifer Lawrence, Elle Fanning, Selena Gomez, and Jennifer Lopez.
Ahead, see all the red-carpet looks.
