Angel Studios Welcomes Ryan Svendsen as Head of Music
By Movieguide® Contributor
SOUND OF FREEDOM distribution and production studio Angel Studios has appointed a new music head—former Lionsgate Music director Ryan Svendsen.
“Ryan has profound music industry experience, connections, and a robust understanding of how important music is to our creator’s stories to amplify light. We’re thrilled to have Ryan on our team,” said Chief Distribution Officer Jared Geesey.
“In this newly created role, Svendsen will lead music strategy, creative, licensing, production, and Svendsen previously held the title of Head of Music at Millennium Media where he oversaw and music supervised EXPEND4BLES, THE HITMAN’S WIFE’S BODYGUARD, THE BRICKLAYER, TILL DEATH, THE PIPER, JOLT and THE PROTEGE,” Angel Studios announced in a press release.
Before that, Svendsen served as Director of Film and TV Music at Lionsgate and directed the release of more than 80 soundtracks. He also organized the release of the Academy Award-winning best song and score for LA LA LAND.
“In addition to teaching Music Supervision at UCLA Extension and being the Inaugural Chair of the UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music Alumni Board, Svendsen is also a recording musician,” the release said. “Svendsen has been credited as a Trumpet player for the 6x platinum Billboard charting song ‘Industry Baby’ by Lil Nas X feat. Jack Harlow in addition to the top 20 billboard charting song ‘Lil Boo Thang’ by Paul Russell.”
Svendsen said on Twitter, “Thrilled to be stepping into a new role as Head of Music at @AngelStudiosInc. We’re working to build a home for stories that amplify light. You might be wondering what is light? Light is true, honest, just, noble, authentic, admirable, lovely or excellent.”

Angel Studios likens its mission to share light with the North Star. In a time where darkness and negative media seem present in abundance, the studios’ hope-filled stories offset it.
The company says, “Just as a compass, the stars, and magnetic North guided sailors through dark waters centuries ago, our North Star for filmmaking helps us navigate dark times and focus on the light in our day.”
Movieguide® reported on Angel Studios’ upcoming movie, CABRINI:
CABRINI takes viewers through the life of “an Italian immigrant who arrives in New York City in 1889 and is greeted by disease, crime, and impoverished children. Cabrini sets off on a daring mission to convince the hostile mayor to secure housing and healthcare for society’s most vulnerable. With broken English and poor health, Cabrini builds an empire of hope unlike anything the world had ever seen.”
Based on a true story, Francesca Cabrini would become “the first American saint of the Catholic Church and one of the most inspiring entrepreneurs in American history…Cabrini devoted her life to fighting for the happiness and health for individuals in the margins of her society.”
…CABRINI is set to hit theaters on March 8. Please check back to Movieguide.org for the full review later this month.
