Ankler Media and LAist announce partnership to provide entertainment news across 89.3, Southern California’s largest public radio station

Press Release | Ankler Media

Ankler Media, the most incisive and trusted voice in coverage of the entertainment industry, has announced a new partnership with LAist, SCPR’s flagship radio station and digital news site, to provide Hollywood news and analysis across multiple platforms, including LAist 89.3, LAist.com, newsletters and social media, reaching a combined audience of 10 million.

The Ankler team will anchor “Entertainment Thursday” on LAist 89.3, reporting the latest news from Hollywood and offering insightful analysis throughout that day every week. The Ankler journalists will be on-air for entertainment segments during “Morning Edition” (5-9:00 a.m. PT), “AirTalk” (9-11 a.m. PT) and “All Things Considered” (1-2 p.m. and 4-6:30 p.m. PT). The Ankler team will also cover breaking entertainment news as it happens. LAist will feature The Ankler’s entertainment content on its homepage, in its morning newsletter and across its social channels. Featured Ankler journalists will include Janice Min, Richard Rushfield, Elaine Low, Peter Kiefer and Sean McNulty.

“We are heading into a pivotal year for the entertainment industry, coming off the heels of an historic strike and the streaming wars, and the people of Southern California are interested more than ever before in how Hollywood shapes their lives and careers,” said Janice Min, CEO and editor-in-chief, Ankler Media.

“We’re thrilled to bring our brand of entertainment news to the LAist audience, the largest public radio audience in LA, and LAist’s massive web presence. The intelligence, reporting, values and credibility of LAist very much are in alignment with ours.”

“Ankler Media is essential reading for the entertainment industry- from the studio C-suite to set builders and makeup artists,” said Kristen Muller, SCPR’s chief content officer.

“As the media landscape in LA continues to evolve, this new partnership ensures that audiences across Southern California understand the seismic changes within the entertainment industry and the impact it has on our region,” said Herb Scannell, CEO, SCPR.

The Ankler quickly has become one of the biggest publications on Substack in its two years, having both predicted and ridden the wave of massive upheaval in the entertainment industry. With deep sourcing and incisive reporting, The Ankler is a must-read among Hollywood, with writers and actors noting its comprehensive, incisive and fair coverage during the strikes. With breaking news, analysis and thoughtful features and podcasts, The Ankler reports extensively on the TV marketplace, the film business, labor issues, the big talent agencies, and the various repercussions of consolidation. The Ankler’s podcast has been downloaded 1.3 million times, and its live events convene the most influential members of the entertainment community.

Described by Vanity Fair as chronicling “Hollywood in all of its naked theatricality, with a mischievous bent and a sardonic regard for the industry’s towering egos,” The Ankler has proven an indispensable voice in an anxious industry, speaking clearly and with depth on all sides of the conversation with top-of-class analysis and information. In December 2023, Min was named one of CNN’s 11 Most Consequential Media and Technology Figures of the year. On issue after issue, The Ankler’s perspective has set the terms of the debate that has followed.

LAist is a brand committed to serve audiences in Greater Los Angeles, Orange County and the Inland Empire. Its award-winning work reaches more than seven million people per month on LAist.com and social media platforms. In 2019, the brand grew to include LAist Studios (www.laiststudios.com), a dedicated podcast development and production studio. Furthering SCPR’s commitment to premium on-demand audio storytelling, podcasts from LAist Studios aim to reflect the ethos of Los Angeles — a forward-looking community built upon unmatched diversity, inclusion, and drive — going beyond geographical borders to connect with listeners around the globe who share the LA state of mind.
