Anne Hathaway walked out of a Vanity Fair photoshoot in New York City in support of the Condé Nast Union walkout. Almost 400 union members who are employed by Condé Nast are on a 24-hour work stoppage to protest against unlawful practices. Hathaway was reportedly unaware of the strike when she arrived at the shoot and was in hair and makeup when she was advised to support the workers. “They hadn’t even started taking photos yet,” a source told Variety, and once the actress found out, she left the building. The media company’s work stoppage coincided with the announcement of the 2024 Academy Award nominations. Employees from publications such as Vanity Fair, Vogue, GQ and Teen Vogue walked out and held a rally in front of the company’s New York offices. Condé Nast recently merged Pitchfork with GQ magazine, resulting in layoffs at the digital music publication, including editor-in-chief Puja Patel.
