Bob Geldof Says He’s Not “White Saviour” For Organizing Live Aid | Entertainment

Bob Geldof has addressed claims that he is a “white savior” for organizing the Live Aid concert in 1985. The musician organized the event to raise money for people affected by the 1983–1985 Ethiopian famine. The show featured stars such as Queen, U2, David Bowie and Paul McCartney. In a recent interview on Times Radio, Geldof expressed dissatisfaction with how people view his role in organizing the concert. “If there was a famine in Italy and someone reacts and they’re white, are they a white savior? Are the only people allowed to react to an African famine black? Are they the only ones allowed to do it?” said Geldof. He believes it is “the greatest load of b*****ks ever” and a “nonsensical, absolutely dismissive argument.” The 1985 Live Aid concert for famine relief raised over £114 million ($140 million).
