Fans visiting Instagram on Friday in search of their favorite dancing pop star likely found themselves saying, “Where’s Britney?”
Two days after she shut down rumors of a comeback by saying that she would “never return to the music industry,” Spears’ Instagram account has disappeared.
The Messenger’s attempts to reach her account by clicking through links to previously published posts were greeted with messages that read: “Sorry, this page isn’t available.”
“Just so we’re clear most of the news is trash!!!” Spears wrote on Wednesday in a post that has since vanished with the rest of her account. “They keep saying I’m turning to random people to do a new album… I will never return to the music industry!!! When I write, I write for fun or I write for other people!!!”
Spears continued, “For those of you who have read my book, there’s loads that you don’t know about me… I’ve written over 20 songs for other people the past two years!!! I’m a ghostwriter and I honestly enjoy it that way!!! People are also saying MY BOOK WAS RELEASED WITHOUT MY APPROVAL ILLEGALLY and that’s far from the truth… have you read the news these days??? I’m so LOVED and blessed!!!”
The post was accompanied by a photo of Salome with the Head of Saint John the Baptist, a famous painting by Guido Reni, an Italian artist from the Baroque period.
The “Toxic” singer’s Instagram account has been controversial lately. Along with a steady stream of Spears dancing in skimpy outfits or posing nude, she raised concerns in September when she posted a video of herself dancing with knives. The stunt prompted a wellness visit from police.
Spears responded by posting a new video of her dancing with two knives.
“I know I spooked everyone with the last post, but these are fake knives that my team rented from Hand Prop shop in LA.,” she wrote alongside the clip. “These are not real knives. No one needs to worry or call the police.”
