Britney Spears says she ‘will never return’ to the music industry

It’s seemingly a wrap for Britney Spears’ music career as we all know it.

Clamoring for new music, fans have long awaited a new project from the pop star, but she’s saying good luck with that because it will never happen.

“Just so we’re clear most of the news is trash!!!” Spears wrote in a lengthy response on Instagram firing back at claims that she was gathering songwriters for a 10th studio album.

“They keep saying I’m turning to random people to do a new album … I will never return to the music industry!!! When I write, I write for fun or I write for other people !!!” Spears wrote. “For those of you who have read my book, there’s loads that you don’t know about me … I’ve written over 20 songs for other people the past two years!!! I’m a ghostwriter and I honestly enjoy it that way!!!”

This was seemingly a shot back at Rolling Stone after the outlet reported that her “management and A&R are trying to get her excited for the music.”

“As of right now, she’s not actively in recording but they’re getting (songs) done to present to her,” the sources said to Rolling Stone. “The hype around this is that everyone wants her to make music again, but I don’t know if she’s there yet.”

In fact, at the time when Spears published her memoir, which detailed everything from her upbringing, her time growing up in the industry, going through an abortion while dating singer Justin Timberlake, and her controversial conservatorship, she wrote: “Pushing forward in my music career is not my focus at the moment. It’s time for me not to be someone who other people want; it’s time to actually find myself.”

Her last full-length album, entitled “Glory,” was released back in 2016. She went back to music briefly in Aug. 2022 for Elton John’s “Hold Me Closer” after a six-year hiatus. The “Toxic” singer came back once more in July for a collaboration with will.i.am for “Mind Your Business.”

Die-hard fans have been desperate for the singer to return to music. Even though she has hinted about being unsure of a return to the industry, this is the first time she flat-out said no.
