Bruins in Third After Day Two of NCAA Regionals


LAS VEGAS, Nev. – The No. 4 UCLA women’s golf team shot a five-under 283 in the second round of the NCAA Las Vegas Regional at Spanish Trail Country Club on Tuesday.

The Bruins sit third overall at two-under, 14 strokes back of No. 9 Arkansas, who sit atop the leaderboard after day two. The Razorbacks lead second-place Purdue by four strokes. Florida State’s Lottie Woad is in first place overall at 10-under after her second round 67.

Two Bruins shot under par on Tuesday, led by Zoe Antoinette Campos, who shot a seven-under 65. Campos, who entered the day at even-par for the tournament, carded a tournament-best to date -7 on Tuesday. She finished the day with seven birdies and did not record a single bogey or worse, and birdied four holes in a row on holes four through seven, she also picked up birdies on holes 10, 13, and 15. With the round of 65 she propelled herself up 10 slots to third overall in the standings, and sits just three strokes off the lead heading into the final round.

Meghan Royal had the biggest jump up the leaderboard of any Bruin on day two. Royal, who shot a two-under 70 on Tuesday, jumped 21 spots up the leaderboard and into a tie for 35th for the tournament. She recorded five birdies, three bogeys, and 10 pars on Tuesday.

Caroline Canales shot two-over on Tuesday and currently sits tied for 21st on the leaderboard. Kate Villegas finished five-over on the day, and sits at +3 for the tournament tied for 25th. Natalie Vo shot a two-over 74 on Tuesday, putting her at seven-over for the tournament and in a tie for 47th.

UCLA tees off for the final round tomorrow morning, beginning on the first hole at 8:00 a.m. (PT).
