Carolina Herrera’s American glamor takes over New York’s Whitney Museum

New York, United States, 12 Sept (EFE).- Carolina Herrera presented its Spring-Summer 2024 collection on Tuesday, inspired by the American glamor of the late 1990s, staging its catwalk in one of the great art venues of the United States, the Whitney Museum in New York.

The brand’s creative director, Wes Gordon, once again relied on the emblems of the house created by the Venezuelan designer, proposing feminine silhouettes with fitted pieces and some touches of volume, floral romantic prints and polka dots, and a great commitment to pastels.

Herrera, one of the oldest brands at New York Fashion Week, attracted dozens of celebrity guests to the event, such as actresses Lucy Hale and West Duchovny or Spanish designer Palomo Spain, as well as numerous “influencers” who sat on benches at the entrance to the museum.

As Gordon explained in a note, for this collection he wanted to evoke the casual glamor and naturalness of the eternal American muse Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy by adding fashion images from the late 90s and an injection of “New York vitality.”

The couturier made his intentions known by incorporating knit into matching sweaters, skirts, cardigans, and the low heel known as the “kitten heel.” He paired them with dresses and skin-revealing lace two-pieces and underwear, or simple tunics and flowing silks.

He emphasized his commitment to yellow and lilac with outfits like a long tulle skirt and fitted jacket of the same color, or a floral dress with openings in the torso, or a flirty long-sleeved minidress with collar and buttons, and a sinuous long tight dress with ruffles.

For the night, he opted for volume and brightness, but with an exercise in restraint: strapless gowns, one with black and purple vertical stripes in tulle with a train, others tighter, covered with transparent or silver sequins, or a fitted metallic glitter jumpsuit.

The designer also gave a new look to the company’s classic cotton shirt and pencil skirt ensemble, opening the show with a white shirt with volume in the sleeves paired with a black skirt, and closing with a similar black blouse and cotton skirt with silver sequins.

Gordon, who came to greet and hug Herrera to applause, said the woman he designs for challenges notions of simplicity, reformulates the feminine strength and energy of New York without sacrificing the joy of dressing for herself. EFE
