Charles D. King Set to Receive Milestone Award – The Hollywood Reporter

The Producers Guild of America will honor film producer Charles D. King with the Milestone Award at the 2024 PGA Awards.

King will accept the accolade, which is the PGA’s most prestigious honor, at the 35th annual awards show on Feb. 25.

The award recognizes producers or production teams that have made historic contributions to the entertainment industry. Early recipients of the Milestone Award include Hollywood legends Louis B. Mayer, Walt Disney and Alfred Hitchcock, as well as contemporary innovators Steven Spielberg, Bob Iger, Sherry Lansing, George Lucas and Kathleen Kennedy, Clint Eastwood, Brian Grazer and Ron Howard, and James Cameron. The PGA most recently honored Warner Bros. Picture Group co-chairs and CEOs Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy with the award in 2023.

King is the founder and CEO of MACRO, a multiplatform media company representing the voices and perspectives of Black people, indigenous people, and people of color. The company’s multiple business verticals include film (MACRO Film Studios) and television studios (MACRO Television Studios) that finance, develop and produce theatrical and streaming features and premium television, and an in-house branding and creative agency (Brand MACRO).

“Finding the words to truly capture my deep gratitude for receiving the Milestone Award from the PGA is admittingly challenging,” said King in a statement. “To be acknowledged for this accomplishment and stand among the luminaries of our industry is both incredibly humbling and a profound honor. I launched MACRO nine years ago with the mission of amplifying the voices and perspectives of persons of color. I’m so proud of my colleagues and the extraordinary producers, filmmakers and artists that I have had the honor of working with over the years — together we’ve shaped MACRO into a force in the industry. We are blessed to do what we do every day, and the road ahead holds boundless promise. I extend my sincerest thanks to Susan Sprung, Stephanie Allain, Donald DeLine, Michelle Byrd and the entire PGA organization for continuing to be exemplary advocates for producers. The work you do matters immensely, and I couldn’t be more proud to be a part of this prestigious group.”

“Charles King’s achievements in our industry are undeniable whether as an agent representing important voices or as the producer responsible for the growing empire that is MACRO, a multiplatform media company that represents the voice and perspectives of Black people and persons of color,” added Producers Guild of America presidents Stephanie Allain and Donald De Line in a joint statement. “Since its inception in 2015, MACRO films have garnered 15 Oscar nominations, including one for King as producer of best picture nominee Judas and the Black Messiah. He continues to trailblaze with his invaluable contributions via his creative storytelling and we are proud to honor him.”

Formerly a partner and senior agent at William Morris Endeavor, King was the first Black partner in the company’s 100+ year history and the first ever Black partner at any major talent agency. King also made history again in 2021, when the best picture Oscar nomination for the film Judas and the Black Messiah made King, with Ryan Coogler and Shaka King, the first ever all-Black team of nominated producers for an Academy Award. He is also a dedicated philanthropist, a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences and the Television Academy; and sits on the boards for the Sundance Institute, College Track and the American Cinematheque.
