After being waived by the Golden State Warriors, Chris Paul is set to sign with the San Antonio Spurs, according to multiple reports. The 39-year-old point guard was entering the final year of his contract, which was not guaranteed.
Paul’s deal with the Spurs is reportedly to be for one year and $11 million.
The Warriors have waived guard Chris Paul.

Golden State saves a large amount of luxury tax money with the waiving of Paul, who played off the bench for the first time in his career last season. The 19-year veteran averaged 9.2 points and 6.8 assists while shooting 44.1% for the Warriors, who finished 46-36 and did not qualify for the playoffs.
Paul, a 12-time All-Star who ranks third in career assists and steals, would provide the perfect veteran playmaker for reigning Kia Rookie of the Year Victor Wembanyama in San Antonio. Paul’s passing and pick-and-roll play have amplified several All-Star big men over his career, including David West, Tyson Chandler, Blake Griffin and DeAndre Jordan.
The Spurs are fresh off drafting Connecticut guard Stephon Castle with the fourth overall pick of the 2024 NBA Draft and have amassed a cache of future draft picks. These moves come as Wembanyama, the first overall pick in 2023, has already emerged as one of the brightest young stars in the league.
San Antonio has not made the playoffs since 2019.
