Clemson baseball beats Coastal Carolina, advances to NCAA Regional final


CLEMSON, S.C. (FOX Carolina) – No. 1 seed Clemson was tied with No. 3 seed Coastal Carolina 3-3 through 8 innings in its second NCAA Regional game until Cam Cannarella hit a sacrifice fly that scored Alden Mathes and gave Clemson a 4-3 lead, which they held onto for the win.

In its first regional matchup Friday night, Clemson beat High Point by the same 4-3 score.

In that game, Tristan Bissetta’s walk-off single in the bottom of the 9th inning scored Blake Wright from second base and caused an eruption of cheers from more than 6,000 fans inside Doug Kingsmore Stadium.

After wins both Friday and Saturday, Clemson advances to the regional final at 6 p.m. Sunday. They’ll play the winner of the elimination game, which starts at noon Sunday, between No. 4 seed High Point and Coastal Carolina.

If Clemson wins Sunday evening, they would advance to the team’s first NCAA Super Regional since 2010, which they would also host.
