Clemson vs Coastal Carolina score updates in NCAA baseball regional

CLEMSON — Clemson baseball plays No. 3 seed Coastal Carolina Saturday at Doug Kingsmore Stadium in the NCAA Tournament.

The Tigers (42-14), who earned the No. 6 overall seed in the 64-team tournament and the top seed in the Clemson Regional, defeated No. 4 seed High Point Friday 4-3 thanks to Tristan Bissetta’s walk-off RBI single. It was Clemson’s 25th comeback win of the season.

The Chanticleers (35-23), who routed Vanderbilt 13-3 Friday, are led by longtime coach Gary Gilmore, who is retiring after this season. They have made the NCAA tournament three straight times and look to defeat the Tigers in it for the first time.

The winner of this matchup (5 p.m. ET, ESPN+) will advance to the Clemson Regional finals. The loser on Sunday will face High Point, who eliminated Vandy earlier Saturday.

FINAL: Clemson 4, Coastal Carolina 3

Zack Beach, who had a home run in his last at-bat, strikes out looking on four pitches. One out.

Ty Barrango strikes out. Two out.

Sebastian Alexander hits one to the wall in left field, but Tristan Bissetta makes the catch for the final out.

Clemson moves onto the Clemson Regional championship at 6 p.m. ET on Sunday against the Coastal-High Point winner. The Tigers are a win away from the Super Regionals.

Clemson 4, Coastal Carolina 3, top 9th: Cam Cannarella RBI sac fly gives Tigers the lead

Clemson starts the inning with the top of the lineup, and Alden Mathes reaches via HBP while Jacob Hinderleider has his fifth hit of the game. Cam Cannarella has another hard hit ball with one out, but it is caught in front of the left field wall for the second out and the RBI sacrifice that scores Mathes. Clemson is coming so close to building a multi-run lead in this regional (21 LOB in the first two games this weekend), but it won’t happen on Saturday.

Tigers lead 4-3 heading into the bottom of the ninth inning. Austin Gordon will enter for the second consecutive day in the ninth.

Clemson 3, Coastal Carolina 3, end 8th: Tigers get out of a jam

With two on and two out in the Coastal 8th, Jacob McGovern comes on to pitch for Clemson and gets the key final out in the inning.

Tigers are in a familiar spot heading into the 9th in a 3-3 game.

Clemson 3, Coastal Carolina 3, end 7th: Zach Beach HR ties the game

Mahlstedt’s first pitch is blasted by Coastal’s Zack Beach for a long-gone solo home run. 3-3 heading into the 8th.

Clemson 3, Coastal Carolina 2, mid 7th: Tigers back in front

Cam Cannarella’s RBI single drives in Jacob Hinderleider, who reached on a one-out double. Tigers back in front. Lucas Mahlstedt will pitch the 7th.

Clemson 2, Coastal Carolina 2 after six innings: Chanticleers tie game, but miss out on opportunity for more

Coastal Carolina ties the game on a pair of singles and a successful safety squeeze bunt, but ruin its chance at a big inning on a baserunning error. Jacob Hinderleider makes a nifty flip to second base for a fielder’s choice, then Coastal’s Dean Mihos gets caught trying to run to uncovered second base despite Jarren Purify having the ball between second base and the mound. Really not sure why Mihos did that. Inning over.

Clemson 2, Coastal Carolina 1 after five innings

Clemson has left runners on in every inning so far in the regional. Aidan Knaak has been excellent despite the game pressure, allowing the one run and four hits over five innings on 72 pitches. Could Clemson get two more innings out of him today?

Clemson 2, Coastal Carolina 1 after three innings: Coastal on the board with a solo HR

Sam Antonacci drills a solo home run to right-center, and the Chanticleers are on the board.

Clemson 2, Coastal Carolina 0, mid 3rd: Tremendous catch prevents a big inning for Clemson

Clemson loads the bases after a pair of singles and an E5 with nobody out, and Cam Cannarella smokes an off-speed pitch to center. But Coastal’s Dean Mihos makes an excellent catch on the incline in deep center to prevent extra bases. A Clemson run scores on the RBI sacrifice fly, but Jimmy Obertop grounds into an inning-ending double play in the next at-bat.

Clemson continues to leave runs on the table in the regional, still lead 2-0.

Clemson 1, Coastal Carolina 0 after two innings

Tristan Bissetta just misses a home run down the right field line. Upon review, the foul ball call stands. He eventually strikes out in an otherwise quiet Clemson 2nd.

Coastal Carolina’s Dean Mihos leads off the Coastal 2nd with a single, but he’s caught stealing on a poorly-timed attempt. Aidan Knaak looks relatively comfortable through two scoreless.

Clemson 1, Coastal Carolina 0 after one inning

Coastal gets back-to-back singles with two out, but Aidan Knaak gets a groundout to end the inning.

Clemson 1, Coastal Carolina 0, middle 1st: Tigers manufacture early run

Alden Mathes reaches via E3 on a bad bounce behind first base, then advances to third base on a Jacob Hinderleider single. Blake Wright drives Mathes in with a RBI sacrifice fly. Wright was pretty fired up after driving that run in.

Tigers have an early lead. Aidan Knaak gets the ball. Clemson is the designated visiting team today.
