Details of Connie Chiume’s memorial and funeral services announced

Details about veteran actor Connie Chiume’s memorial and funeral services have been announced.

The Gomora and Black Panther actor died at the age of 72 on 6 August at Garden City Hospital. Her cause of death was not disclosed.

“The Chiume family regrets to inform you of the passing of the international[ly] acclaimed award-winning actress Connie Chiume,” read a statement uploaded to Chiume’s social media. 

Chiume’s memorial service will be on 13 August at 12:00, and her funeral service will be on 15 August at 08:00. Both services will be held at Oasis of Life Family Church in Daveyton, Gauteng.

Chiume was best known for her starring role as Mamokete “Kete” Khuse, an upstanding, moral woman and maternal figure in the fictional community on e.tv soapie Rhythm City. She played the role between 2007 and 2016.

She also appeared in shows like Zone 14, Soul City, Mazinyo Dot Q and Gomora.

Chiume was highly celebrated for her appearances in the Marvel film Black Panther (2018) and Beyonce’s Black Is King (2020). 

Many celebrities paid tribute to Chiume, including Hollywood actor Lupita Nyong’o, who starred with her in Black Panther.

“We have lost a library! May Connie Chiume rest in peace and power,” she wrote.
