The controversial hit has divided country fans, but Parton’s praise is likely to alleviate some of the tensions. ‘Texas Hold ‘Em’ made its debut at 54 on the Country Airplay chart, marking her first appearance on the chart. No Black woman had ever solely written a No. 1 country song until last year, when Luke Combs covered Tracy Chapman’s ‘Fast Car’.
