Dolly Parton docuseries to feature historic Bijou Theater in Knoxville, TN

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — This fall, Dolly Parton is releasing a new album, and alongside it, she is also releasing an accompanying docuseries that includes performances in Knoxville’s historic Bijou Theater.

On Friday, Parton announced her upcoming album, Dolly Parton & Family: Smoky Mountain DNA – Family, Faith & Fables, at the grand opening of Dollywood’s “Dolly Parton Experience.” As the name suggests, the album is poised to tell the story of Dolly’s family on her father’s side, the Partons, and her mother’s, the Owens.

In the four-part docuseries, Parton is offering viewers an intimate look at her family’s journey from the UK to present-day East Tennessee. It will feature interviews with several of Parton’s family members, and a focus on Reverend Jake Owens, Parton’s grandfather.

Throughout the docuseries, there will also be concert performances filmed at the Bijou Theater by Dolly and her family that are on the record. Although the track list has yet to be announced, it has been shared that Smoky Mountain DNA was produced by Parton’s cousin, Richie Owens, and will include members from Parton’s immediate and extended family, including recordings of some who have already died.

Smoky Mountain DNA is not just a musical and visual experience but a passage through the lineage and ethos of a family that has deeply influenced one of the world’s most beloved artists,” a press release on the new album reads.

The new album will be released on November 15, 2024, and pre-orders for Smoky Mountain DNA begin on June 21.
