ANTRIM COUNTY, Mich., (WPBN/WGTU) — Northern Michigan is home to unique farms and ranches. One Antrim County ranch is getting ready to celebrate Yak Fest.
Staff at a Yak or Two Ranch say their mission is to help others have a “yak” experience.
The owners’ original plan was to just own “a yak or two”.
Now they take care of a herd.
“Few people know what a yak is, let alone what their value is for not only now but for future agriculture,” Director Bethany Pereira said. “Our goal really is to make sure that their yaks not only for our generation but 100 years from now. And that’s because yaks are pretty much extinct. The yaks we have in North America are the only group that exists with these genetics.”
Yak Fest is this Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
It’s free for the family.
Lunch tickets can be bought until sell out.
