Luther Hendricks of Vallejo — U.S. Marine Corps World War II veteran and Congressional Gold Medal recipient — celebrated his 99th birthday on April 3 with his family and many fellow veterans.
Marlo S. Nisperos of Vallejo, center, was recently sworn-in as a Solano County Superior Court Judge. She was appointed by Gov. Gavin Newsom to fill the vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Earl Nelson. She earned a Juris Doctor degree from Loyola Law School, Los Angeles, then served as a Deputy District Attorney at the Solano County DA’s Office from 2006 to 2015 and as an Administrative Law Judge at the Office of Administrative Hearings since 2019. She and proud parents, Eleanor and Mike, were joined by several community leaders for the swearing-in of the first Filipino-American Solano County Superior Court Judge.
The American Legion Manuel L. Quezon Post 603 of Vallejo recently commemorated National Vietnams War Veterans Day by distributing United States of America Vietnam War Commemoration mementos to local Veterans. All U.S. Armed Forces Veterans who served on active duty at any time from Nov. 1, 1955 to May 15, 1975, regardless of location, and their families are being honored by USAVWC.

Nursing Students Moore and Thomas are Recipients of California Forty & Eight’s $1,000 Scholarship

On April 6, Jeannette Moore (left) and Nancy Thomas were presented with $1,000 nursing scholarships by the California Forty & Eight (40&8) Solano Voiture Locale 395 at the Vallejo Veterans Building.

Jeannette Moore is a Mexican American mother of six and started the Solano Community College Nursing Program in 2023. “There have been many challenges along the way but I am not only grateful but blessed to be able to say I am not only pursuing my goal but living it. I want to be able to represent my raza and let them know que si se puede,” she said.

Nancy Thomas is a wife, mother of three, the first college graduate in her family, and a student nurse extern at a local hospital. She is planning to work in an Intensive Care Unit then become a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist. “I am passionate about caring for other people while promoting a positive experience and building a caring connection with patients,” she said.

Cy Dempsay of Vacaville named to the 2023-2024 Winter Term President’s list at Oregon Institute of Technology

Cy Dempsay of Vacaville, who studies Civil Engineering, has been named to the 2023-2024 Winter Term President’s list at Oregon Institute of Technology. Recipients of the honor achieved a 3.70 grade-point average and above.

Kayla Kearney named to Dean’s List at Puget Sound for fall 2023

Kayla Kearney of Vacaville, made the fall 2023 Dean’s List at the University of Puget Sound for achieving at least a 3.7 grade-point average, completing all of their enrolled courses without withdrawals, and having no incomplete grades.
