How Movieguide®’s Internship Changed My Life

I always wanted to make a difference in the world for Christ, but I didn’t know how. 

My senior year in college was fast approaching, and I needed an internship. 

I wanted to find something I knew would point people to God—a place where my work would mean more than just checking a box. 

That’s when I found Movieguide®’s internship. 

Redeeming Hollywood? Shaping culture for Christ? I couldn’t think of anything else that better aligned with my career goals and personal beliefs. 

I hesitated to apply, though. As an English major, I didn’t know much about the entertainment industry, and the idea of leaving my home in the Midwest for Los Angeles was equally daunting. 

But I decided to go for it. 

It was one of the best decisions of my life. 

I had the opportunity to serve as Movieguide®’s editorial intern for the summer of 2022. 

From practical, hands-on experiences to meeting new friends and eventually landing a job as a content specialist for Movieguide®, Movieguide®’s internship changed my life in so many ways. 

Considering applying? Here are just a few of my top reasons why you should take the plunge: 

1. Real-world training: As an intern, I put my education into practice. From covering breaking news to attending a press conference for a new movie, I got first-hand experience in entertainment journalism. 
2. Once-in-a-lifetime opportunities: With Movieguide®, I got to attend pre-screenings of upcoming movies, tour the Warner Bros. studio lot and visit iconic Hollywood locations for free. Each of these experiences shaped my understanding of the entertainment industry.
3. Unique learning experiences: As a Movieguide® intern, I had the opportunity to learn about the industry from people actively working in it. From directors to producers to casting directors, Movieguide® provided me with an inside look at all aspects of the entertainment world. Plus, I learned about what it means to work as a Christian in Hollywood from Movieguide®’s founder, Dr. Ted Baehr. 
4. Friendships and connections: Movieguide®’s internship helped me connect with other Christians who are passionate about changing the entertainment industry for Christ. These connections and friendships have continued to make an impact. 
5. Direction and purpose: Before the internship, I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do after I graduated from university. Movieguide®’s internship provided me with a focus and direction for my career.

Now, as a content specialist for Movieguide®, I continue to see how God works in Hollywood and through entertainment.
