Steve Carell is taking center stage.
The comedic actor known for his work in “The Office,” “The 40-Year-Old Virgin,” “Little Miss Sunshine,” “The Daily Show,” “Anchorman” and countless other projects will make his Broadway debut in “Uncle Vanya” at Lincoln Center’s Vivian Beaumont Theatre.
Carell, 61, stars as the titular Uncle Vanya with previews starting Tuesday, April 2 and running all the way until closing night on Sunday, June 16.
Other big names round out the ensemble.
He’ll be joined by familiar faces Alfred Molina (“Spiderman 2”), William Jackson Harper (“The Good Place”), Alison Pill (“Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World”), Jayne Houdyshell (“Only Murders In The Building”) and Anika Noni Rose (“The Princess and the Frog”).
For those unfamiliar with the story, “Uncle Vanya” tells the tale of Sonya (Pill) and her uncle Vanya managing the family farm by themselves.
That is, until one sweltering summer, when Sonya’s unwell father (Molina) and his charming wife (Rose) arrive and disrupt the natural order of things.

“Uncle Vanya” cast
Although no other cast members besides the core six players that have been announced, here’s a closer look at their careers.
Steve Carell has one of the most impressive resumes of any actor working today. From broad comedy (“Evan Almighty”) to award seasons fare (“Foxcatcher”) to a turn in Wes Anderson’s “Asteroid City,” he’s done it all…except Broadway.
Alfred Molina is another impressive character whose lent his talents to most every kind of film. We’re partial to his work in “Boogie Nights,” “Magnolia,” “Frida,” “An Education” and “Little Men.” Prior to “Vanya,” he last appeared on Broadway in 2010 when he played Mark Rothko in “Red.”
William Jackson Harper might look familiar. He’s popped up in art-house favorites like “Midsommar,” “Paterson” and “Dark Waters” as well as big-budget franchise features like “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” and the Peacock series “The Resort.” His last Broadway play was “All The Way” alongside Bryan Cranston.
Alison Pill works. Over the past few years, she’s lent her talents to ‘Pieces Of April,” “Milk,” “Goon,” “Midnight In Paris” along with “Dan In Real Life” which starred Carell. As for TV, she was a major player in “The Newsroom,” “American Horror Story,” “Star Trek: Picard” and most recently the animated Netflix “Scott Pilgrim” reboot.
Jayne Houdyshell appeared in “Only Murders In The Building” as Bunny, the victim at the center of the show’s second season. There’s so much more to her than that, though. She also delivered standout performances in “The Humans,” “Causeway,” “Little Women” and “Downsizing.” Still, she’s most well known for her theater work. In 2016, she won the Tony for Best Featured Actress in a Play for her work in “The Humans.”
Anika Noni Rose won a Best Featured Actress in a Musical Tony in 2004 for her work in “Caroline, or Change.” If you’re more of a film and TV fan, it’s likely you caught her in “Dreamgirls,” “The Good Wife,” “Bates Motel,” “Maid” and…”From Justin To Kelly.” In 2014, she was nominated for a Tony for her work in “A Raisin In The Sun.”
Upcoming Steve Carell projects
In addition to stage work, Carell will be lending his voice to a pair of feature films in 2024.
This is what we know about each flick prior to their release.
“If” follows a young girl who goes through a difficult experience and then begins to see everyone’s imaginary friends who have been left behind as their real-life friends have grown up. The film stars Ryan Reynolds, Phoebe Waller-Bridges, Emily Blunt, Bobby Moynihan, Matt Damon and so many more.
“Despicable Me 4” doesn’t have any plot details at the moment. We’re excited though because “White Lotus” creator Mike White is listed as the film’s screenwriter. Carell will be joined by Kristen Wiig, Steve Coogan, Miranda Cosgrove and Pierre Coffin in the voice cast.
