It’s sun’s out, buns out for Glen Powell this week. Days after baring his backside on the cover of Men’s Health, Powell has his behind front and center yet again in the new trailer for his upcoming romantic comedy, Anyone but You, costarring Euphoria’s Sydney Sweeney.
The new trailer for Anyone but You opens with Powell and Sweeney on a flight to attend a wedding in Australia. Powell’s Ben reveals that he and Sweeney’s Bea hooked up while she was on a break from her ex-fiancé, Jonathan (Never Have I Ever’s Darren Barnet). From their brief plane interaction, it’s clear that Bea and Ben’s fling did not end well. “I’m all good on creatine and on small-dick insecurity,” she quips to Ben, prompting Ben to tell a very confused fellow passenger that there’s “nothing small about me.” Whatever happened to plane etiquette?
The flirty jokes continue as Bea and Ben devise a plan: They’ll pretend to be a couple in order to stop Bea’s parents from setting her back up with Jonathan, and to help Ben get the attention of a wedding guest whom he has a crush on. We see it in action on a hike, when Ben asks Bea for “permission to put my left hand on your right buttock.” But while Ben is rubbing Bea’s backside (“It’s not a magic lamp,” she quips) the hikers are too enthralled by a koala—it is Australia, after all—to notice. And thus the charade is forced to continue.
Directed by Easy A’s Will Gluck, Anyone but You also stars Alexandra Shipp, Rachel Griffiths, and Dermot Mulroney. While shooting Anyone but You, Powell and Sweeney made headlines for engaging in a rumored romance off-screen, especially after Powell’s longtime girlfriend broke up with him amid the controversy. In his Men’s Health cover story, Powell addressed what he referred to as the “alleged affair” with Sweeney, saying that the rumors about them were “disorienting and unfair” and “a part of this gig.”
As for that gig, Powell and Sweeney certainly seem to have chemistry on camera. To steal focus from the koala, Bea sticks her hand down Ben’s pants. “Do you have a mole or something on your butt?” she asks, before whipping her hand out of his pants to reveal a tarantula. Chaos ensues, and Ben winds up butt naked—for fear of having other tarantulas hidden in his clothes, of course—while Bea simply peeks under her clothes for any stray wildlife. “That’s probably a better way to check than what I did,” quips Ben. You can see Powell in the buff opposite Sweeney when Anyone but You hits theaters on December 22.
