Gomora and Black Panther actor Connie Chiume has died, aged 72.
Her family shared the news in a short statement posted on her verified Instagram account.
“The Chiume family regrets to inform you of the passing of the international[ly] acclaimed award-winning actress Connie Chiume,” read part of the statement.
She died at Garden City Hospital on Tuesday, 6 August and her cause of death was not disclosed.
Her distraught daughter confirmed the news to News24.
The Chiume family promised to provide further details in due course.
Chiume was best known for her starring role as Mamokete “Kete” Khuse, an upstanding and moral woman and maternal figure in the fictional community on e.tv soapie Rhythm City. She played the role between 2007 and 2016.
She also appeared in shows like Zone 14, Soul City, Mazinyo Dot Q and Gomora.
Chiume was highly celebrated for her appearances in the Marvel film Black Panther (2018) and Beyonce’s Black Is King (2020).
She leaves behind four adult children.
