Film director Harvey Weinstein has filed to appeal his rape and sexual assault conviction in Los Angeles. This latest appeal comes weeks after Weinstein successfully overturned a similar conviction in New York. The infamous movie mogul’s publicist, Juda Engelmayer, told NBC that he “was tried by a system devoted to ‘getting him’ at all costs.” Weinstein’s lawyers claim that he “stands wrongfully convicted of sexually assaulting Jane Doe 1” in his LA conviction. The former director was convicted in 2022 of two counts of sexual assault and one count of rape of a woman known as Jane Doe 1. Weinstein was also found not guilty by a jury of sexual battery by restraint against Jane Doe 2. He pleaded not guilty to all of the charges against him. Engelmayer also said that “this appeal demonstrates nearly a dozen areas of brazen legal missteps that violated his right to a fair trial.”
