Hip-hop is one of the most popular and influential genres of music in the world, with roots in African-American culture and social movements. It emerged in the early 1970s as a form of artistic expression and rebellion against the socioeconomic challenges faced by urban youth in New York City. Since then, it has evolved into a global phenomenon that has shaped music styles, fashion, art, language, politics, and more.
