Max Verstappen punched his steering wheel at the end of his final push lap, well aware that he didn’t have enough to beat the McLarens for pole. He didn’t seem any happier during his grid interview after qualifying.
“Of course, I love competition, but I would like to be on top of the competition,” Verstappen said. “And at the moment, I feel like we are chasing and having a few more difficult weekends.
“But I don’t back out of a fight.”
