I need to feel connected to my work, says Jodie Comer | Entertainment

Jodie Comer wants to feel “emotionally connected” to her work.

The 30-year-old actress plays a mother who navigates flooding and civil unrest in ‘The End We Start From’, a new survival film directed by Mahalia Belo, and Jodie has revealed what she specifically looks for in a movie script.

She told the BBC: “I want to be moved, I want to feel invigorated, I want to feel energized by the thought of telling the story, and I want to feel emotionally connected.

“I want to care. I have a very gut reaction to things and if it’s not a ‘Hell yes!’ it’s usually a ‘No’.

“I don’t really want to stay in a pattern of repetition and revisit the same things.

“I’m always looking for something – a new self-discovery, in a way.”

Jodie relished the experience of working on ‘The End We Start From’.

The actress explained that working on an independent film was a new and exciting challenge for her.

She shared: “Before I’d done an indie film, I’d watch the British Independent Film Awards every year and hear people go, ‘The passion, the love, the sheer drive to get indie films made – it’s incomparable!’

“And then you create a film like that and you’re like, ‘Oh, it’s no joke, people are making this for the love of it’.”

Jodie previously claimed that her ‘Killing Eve’ role “set the bar” for her career.

The actress now seeks roles that will “challenge” and “stretch” her, after shooting to stardom as Villanelle in the hit TV series.

She told Bella magazine: “Playing Villanelle stretched me out of my comfort zone in so many ways, that now when I look at roles, I think about what the challenge is.

“She really gave me that, the show has set the bar for me.

“Playing her, you have to be a bit fearless and do silly things. It would look silly if you didn’t commit to it.”
