James Bond Producers ‘Haven’t Even Begun’ Working on Future Films

James Bond fans are going to be waiting a bit longer to find out who the next 007 is.

The franchise’s producer, Barbara Broccoli, says they have a “big road ahead” as they “haven’t even begun” work on a new film following Daniel Craig’s era as the iconic secret agent.

Broccoli helms the film series with her half-brother, Michael G. Wilson. While crafting a new version of the character, they say that they want the next installment to display how the world has changed since Craig started playing the role in 2006.

When it comes to who will be playing the role, they still are figuring out how the character will be “reinvented for the next chapter.” She cites Craig as being someone who let them “focus on what a 21st-century hero would look like.”

“Daniel gave us the ability to mine the emotional life of the character … and also the world was ready for it,” she said in an interview with The Guardian. “I think these movies reflect the time they are in, and there’s a big, big road ahead reinventing it for the next chapter.”

Craig played Bond for 15 years, which makes him the actor who has portrayed the character the longest. Across the five films he did for the franchise, Craig worked alongside stars like Rami Malek, Judi Dench, Ana de Armas and more.

While Broccoli’s primary focus is the feature films, she hopes that they can expand the franchises to make versions for other countries.

“We haven’t quite gotten there yet; we want to launch it and see the response … but I would love to see the various versions around the world, from Africa, India and Asia.”
