John Lennon’s ‘Help!’ guitar which resurfaced after being discovered in an attic, has been sold for $2,857,500 at a record-breaking auction. This has set the record for the highest-selling instrument at auction in the Beatles’ history. The Framus 12-string was played by both Lennon and George Harrison while recording the ‘Help!’ album, as well as ‘Rubber Soul.’ After being used by many music industry icons, the guitar was stored away for over 50 years in an attic before its recent discovery. Darren Julien of Julien’s Auctions likened the discovery to finding a lost masterpiece and highlighted that the guitar is in excellent condition. Lennon’s guitar had an estimated price of $600,000 to $800,000 but was expected to fetch more at auction. By hitting the $2.4 million price tag, it surpassed Lennon’s Gibson J160E which sold in 2015. “This guitar is not only a piece of music history but a symbol of John Lennon’s enduring legacy. Today’s unprecedented sale is a testament to the timeless appeal and reverence of the Beatles’ music and John Lennon,” said David Goodman, Chief Executive at Julien’s Auctions, in a statement.
