John Mayer Injures Finger Amidst Dead And Company Sphere Residency

For a guitarist, fingers are probably the most integral part of the body, and John Mayer recently injured an important one after an incident with a truck door. The accident happened amidst Dead & Company’s Sphere residency in Las Vegas, and the guitarist revealed if he’d be able to perform during their last several shows in an Instagram post detailing the injury.

“Last Thursday I injured my left index finger (truck door), and the first thing that went through my mind was ‘I really need that finger in a week.’ I need all my fingers, but the left index is the team captain of my fretting hand,” he explained. “It will heal just fine, but will be out of commission for a while. In the meantime, I have spent every day practicing guitar using the other three fingers and I think I have it sounding pretty good!”

“I’ve always felt like every part of me belongs to these shows, and it’s my responsibility to return to the stage each night without screwing up the equipment, and I’m sorry for the misadventure here,” Mayer added. “The power of the music and the love for these shows will prevail!”

After Dead & Company complete their residency, the Eagles are slated to take over the one-of-a-kind venue this fall. See Mayer’s post and a list of Dead & Company’s remaining residency dates below.
