Jon Wysocki, founding drummer of Staind, dead at 56

SPRINGFIELD, MA (WGGB/WSHM) – Jon Wysocki, drummer and founding member of the band Staind, has died.

The Westfield native’s death was announced by his current band, Lydia’s Castle, Sunday on social media. Wysocki’s bandmates said he died surrounded by family and friends that loved him dearly and that an official statement will be developed shortly.

Staind formed in Springfield in 1993 after vocalist Aaron Lewis and guitarist Mike Mushok met a Christmas party. Wysocki was brought into play drums two years later in 1995 and performed with the band until his death, including on their album released last year.

Staind said on social media: “We first met Jon through mutual friends in 1994. We came together with Mike, Aaron, and Johnny April in 1995 and founded Staind. The 17 years that followed were some of the best memories of our times together. From practice in Ludlow, Mass to touring around the world, Jon was integral to who we were as a band. Our hearts go out to Jon’s family, and fans around the world who loved him.”

Wysocki was 56 years old.
