Lauren Day Collects Second Straight All-American Accolade

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The highly acclaimed career of Lauren Day rounded out with the recent announcement of her spot on the 2024 CRCA  All-American Second Team. Coming off a 2023 campaign that saw her named as a CRCA Honorable Mention All-American, the Seattle, Washington native continued her ascent up the national ranks as she finished her collegiate career with strong results once again rowing with Navy’s first varsity eight crew. Additionally, the coaches’ association announced its list of 2024 CRCA Scholar-Athletes and eight members of the Navy women’s rowing program were recognized.

A four-year starter with Navy’s first varsity eight crew, Day was once again a key cog in the success of the Mids’ top boat. Powering the first varsity from either the fifth or sixth seats throughout the entire spring season, Day helped Navy’s V8 come home with a silver medal at the 2024 Patriot League Championship. At the league regatta on May 17, the Mids’ first varsity cruised in its qualifying race with a time of 7:06.293 that won the heat and seeded them second overall in the grand final. Faced with challenge of overcoming the top-seeded Boston University Terriers in the grand final, Navy made a move on BU during the third quarter of the 2,000-meter race, but a strong rebuttal by the Terriers down the stretch allowed them to hold off the Mids by a 6:42.028 to 6:45.474 margin.

Day is a four-time All-Patriot League honoree as she was recognized on the All-PL Second Team in 2021 as a freshman and 2022 as a sophomore before breaking through and earning a spot on the conference’s 2023 First Team and again on the top team this past spring. A gold medalist at the 2023 World Under-23 Rowing Championship with Team USA’s women’s eight crew, this is Day’s second career All-American award. The criteria for this national recognition requires individuals to have rowed at least 75% of her season’s races with the first varsity eight and be named to her respective conference’s first team, while being judged on overall boat performance, coach’s comments, individual achievements and 2k erg score. She is the only Patriot League rower recognized on any of the first, second or honorable mention teams.
