Lil Nas X has apologized on social media to the Christian community for the controversial symbolism in the music video for his song ‘J Christ.’ The video features the rapper strapped to a cross while dressed as Jesus, among other instances of religious symbolism. “This is not to try to get everybody on my good side or whatnot. This is more so to clear my head about my own decisions. I know I messed up really bad this time, wrote Lil Nas X. He went on to say that he “didn’t mean to mock” the religion and that he was merely using it as imagery to symbolize his own return. Later on in the four-minute-long apology, the rapper said he is “not an evil demon guy” and that he wants to bring people together. In 2022, he received criticism for his ‘Montero’ music video, in which he gave the devil a lap dance and then broke his neck.
