Will titles change hands at AEW’s “Double or Nothing”‘” pay-per-view tonight in Las Vegas?

Midnight: “Anarchy in the Arena:” The Elite vs. Team AEW
The skinny: The Elite (Kazuchika Okada, Jack Perry, Matthew Jackson and Nicholas Jackson) made a splash in late April when they laid out AEW founder Tony Khan. The injury happened the night before the NFL Draft, and Khan showed up to his dad’s draft night war room wearing a neck brace. The Elite later laid out former friend Kenny Omega. Now, a group of AEW devotees (Bryan Danielson, Cash Wheeler, Dax Harwood and Darby Allin) look to put the Elite in their place. Prediction: The Elite maintain their push as top heels and defeat the beloved AEW team. You can bet at some point Tony Khan will have his revenge.
The match: Before the Elite’s introductions could be finished, Team AEW ran out of nowhere to attack them. As they beat the heck out of each other, different competitors keep grabbing the mic and demanding their theme song plays. You gotta love hearing “The Final Countdown” by Europe. The match has spilled over to the crowd. This is living up to the hype as an anarchy in the arena. Some of the competitors are fighting in the concession area. Some in the crowd. A real trash can got used by Dax. Garbage and liquid spilled everywhere. A quad box is being used. It’s like NFL Red Zone. About 5 minutes into the match, Matt Jackson demands the Europe song be stopped because it’s costing him too much money in royalties. Finally, there’s no more music blaring. Just beatdowns all over the arena. Everyone appears to be working their way back to the ring except Perry and Darby. The crowd is chanting “We want music.” Are we in a bowling alley? Darby tried drowning Perry in an ice bath. Who left that there?? The two have now reached a pile of random debris outside, including a metal pipe, pallets and other objects. Inside the ring, Dax is bleeding. Not sure how. Back outside, Perry is seen speeding in a short bus. He hit the pile of debris, and we’re meant to think Darby was in it. Perry looks injured after crashing into the pile. Did we just see vehicular homicide? Probably not. Bryan Danielson is now bleeding. Darby Allin emerges from nowhere. Maybe he wasn’t hit by a bus? And where’s Jack Perry? The Jacksons powerbomb Allin onto four set-up steel chairs. They’re now dragging his lifeless body out of the arena. They put him on a platform backstage that lowered him down somewhere. I’m sure he’ll re-emerge. Now the Jacksons are beating Danielson. Bodies are strewn everywhere. Cash Wheeler showed up with a table near the ring entrance area. Bad idea. Nicholas Jackson climbed to the top of the tunnel and elbow dropped Cash through the table. Jack Perry just ambled into the arena and grabbed Tony Khan. We’ve lost Perry and Khan, but Darby just emerged with a flamethrower. As Perry shows up near the entryway with Khan, Allin set Perry on fire. Holy S***!!! The Jacksons put Perry out with extinguishers, then soaked Allin. The Jacksons drag Allin to the ring. He’s being beaten by the Young Bucks and Okada. A winch just lowered from the top. ofthe arena. The Jacksons are tying up the legs. of Allin. They’re going to hang him upside down by the ankles. But Dax fights back to stop it. Allin is still tied up. One of the Jacksons hit Dax with. achair that exploded for some reason. It was like a cartoon — but real. Okada is putting on an arm sleeve filled with outward facing tacks. He clotheslined Cash with it. Now Okada has a pair of shoes with thumbtacks on the bottom. Darby Allin is now being hung upside down. The Jacksons each put one shoe on and super-kicked Allin with thumbtacked shoes while he hung like a piece of meat. One Jackson brother kicked the other with the spiked shoes on accident. Danielson got a show and is pummeling everyone with it. Allin is still just hanging … and bleeding. Danielson is cleaning house. Is someone going to cut down Allin?? Wait … Jack Perry just got into the ring. He must have had flame-retardant pants. Perry hits his finisher on Danielson and the Elite wins.
Match time: 30 insane minutes.
Prediction record: 10-2. A bit predictable, but a very entertaining night.
11:22 p.m.: AEW World Champion Swerve Strickland vs. Christian Cage
The skinny: Cage lost his TNT Championship to longtime frienemy Adam Copeland on March 20. Now, he wants to regain gold, this time on an even grander scale. However, Strickland plans to turn the MGM Grand into Swerve’s House, looking to retain the title a little more than a month after winning it. Prediction: Swerve keeps the title in-house.
The match: Cage comes to the ring with the Matriarch Shayna Wayne, Nick Wayne and Killswitch. Swerve comes to the ring to a good crowd pop and chants of Swerve’s House thanks to Prince Nana. Christian tries to keep Swerve grounded to start. It’s a slower pace, which is what Christian is trying to accomplish. Christian has his period of leading, and then Swerve takes over. Swerve uses Christian’s turtle neck to his advantage. As Swerve takes control, he’s starting to take more chances, hitting more aerial maneuvers. Christian locks in a Sharpshooter. Christian’s entourage keeps interfering, but Prince Nana gets ejected for taking the belt away before it can get used on Swerve. As the ref pays attention to Nana, Killswitch and Nick work over Swerve. Swerve fights them off, but Christian hits a spear to stop his momentum. The ref then ejects all three of Christian’s group. Swerve laughs. Nick Wayne still finds a way to come back and interfere, but Swerve kicks out after Christian hits the killswitch. The Spanish announce table is about to get it. Swerve reverses it and counters on Christian, but the table fails to collapse after a money stomp. Swerve hits the House Call and pins Christian to retain the title.
Match time: 25 minutes
Prediction record: 9-2
10:53 p.m.: TBS champion Willow Nightengale vs. Mercedes Moné
The skinny: Moné will wrestle her first AEW match since debuting with the company in March. Soon after, she came to the ring to help Nightengale after she was attacked by Julia Hart and Skye Blue. It was a friendship not meant to be. A few weeks back, Nightengale put Moné through a table, and now the rivalry will come to a head. The two are certainly familiar with each other. Last year, Moné and Nightengale fought in a tournament final in New Japan Pro-Wrestling with Nightengale coming out on top for the Strong Women’s Championship. Moné broke her ankle during the match, and will return to action for the first time since. Prediction: They didn’t bring in Moné to lose. She walks out the champ.
The match: A rather grand entrance for Moné. Band drummers with lit-up drums. Dancers reminiscent of the intro to Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. I guess anything goes. The CEO took control early, but Nightengale is showing her power to gain the advantage. Moné is trying to take out a leg of the much larger opponent. It’s working as Moné works over the left knee. It’s been a pretty even match, a lot of back-and-forth. We’re about 15 minutes in at this point. Moné may lack size, but she’s showcasing really sound wrestling skills. Willow had the match won, but her entourage outside the ring distracted the ref and she didn’t get the pin. Moné hit her finishing maneuver and won the TBS title.
After the match, Kris Statlander turned on her friend Willow and beat her up outside the ring.
Match time: 22 minutes
Prediction record: 8-2
10:21 p.m. TNT champion Adam Copeland vs. Malakai Black in a Barbed Wire Steel Cage match
The skinny: Can Copeland make it 3-for-3 in facing House of Black members after successfully defending his TNT title against Brody King and Buddy Matthews? It’s one thing to compete in a steel cage, but can the iconic wrestler pull one out over a much younger competitor surrounded by barbed wire? Prediction: Copeland maintains his edge and retains the title.
The match: Copeland rose out of the ground surrounded by flames, similar to how you might have seen him in the late 90s with the Brood. The match starts out quickly with steel chairs flying inside the barbed wire cage. Copeland tried removing some barbed wire and uses it in Black’s forehead, blood streaming. As Copeland works over Black, blood is spattering all over the ring. Now Copeland is bleeding. Black is using a barbed-wire wrapped bat in Copeland. While trying to excape the cage, Black pullec Copeland and he racked his sensitive area on the top rope. It prompted Tony Schiavone to say “I’d rather bleed than have that happen to me.” Do you agree? Copeland laid Black on a table and wrapped him to the table using barbed wire. Copeland then goes to the top rope. Then to the top of the cage. Copeland is on top of the cage and jumps with the elbow onto Black below. The crowd chants “Holy Sh**!” And Tony Schivaone says it’s the most apropos “Holy sh**” chant ever. Black kicks Copeland so hard, he blows through the steel cage door, breaking the lock and sending both men outside the ring. Blacks two henchmen Brody King and Buddy Matthews come out and mangle Copeland. As they appear to be in control, the lights started flickering and music hits. Gangrel rises out of the ring and destroys the House of Black. Copeland hits a spear and wraps him in a cross face crippler with barbed wire wrapped around Black’s face. He’s out and Copeland wins.
Match time: 25 minutes
Predictions record: 7-2
10 p.m. IWGP champ Jon Moxley vs. Konosuke Takeshita
The skinny: This match kicks off the third hour of the pay-pre-view. It isn’t for the title, but if Takeshita wins, he’ll get a shot at a later date. Prediction: Takeshita wins and gets a title shot.
The match: Moxley’s arm is wrapped up after Takeshita’s assault Saturday night. Takeshita is dominating his injured competitor. Moxley finally gets an edge and bites Takeshita’s skull. But Takeshita quickly ends the rally. The match has dragged on. There’s been a dozen near pins from Takeshita. Moxley won’t lose. Takeshita grabbed a chair, but Moxley dropped him on it and in two moves beat Takeshita.
Match time: 16 minutes
Predictions record: 6-2
9:38: FTW Champion Chris Jericho vs. Hook vs. Katsuyori Shibata (FTW rules match)
The skinny: The match was set up after a bizarre match ending where Hook and Shibata simultaneously submitted Bryan Keith in a three-way match to determine Jericho’s title challenger. Jericho, once a mentor to Hook, now faces his former protege and the ever-difficult Shibata in what amounts to a no disqualifications match. Prediction: Hook’s been getting pushed along since he joined AEW, and his time is now. He takes the title from his former mentor.
The match: Hook gets early momentum and immediately goes under the ring and sets up a table. Jericho gains control and dumps out a bag of dice in the ring. Both challengers suplex Jericho onto the dice, then they just starting pelting him with them. No lucky 7s here. Notice, the table still hasn’t been broken. But Hook and Chibata both grab kendo sticks. Jericho finds one of his own and let the beatings begin. Big Bill interferes with the match and beats up Hook, but it’s a no DQ match, so it’s allowed. Hook puts Bill through that table outside the ring. Brian Keith interferes. Chris Jericho pins Chibata, who was lying inside a trash can, to retain the title.
Match time: 15 minutes.
Predictions record: 6-1.
9:18 p.m.: Orange Cassidy vs. Trent Beretta
The skinny: It’s a tale as old as time: two best friends become bitter enemies. Now, they’ll settle it in the ring. Beretta’s got a bad attitude, but Cassidy is one of the hardest AEW competitors to pin down. This one should be a real barn burner. Prediction: Cassidy is entertaining and insane, and will beat his former friend.
The match: Beretta comes out, then Cassidy’s music hits but he doesn’t come out. So it stops. Then his old music kicks in and Cassidy is announced from “wherever” and weighing “whatever.” That’s what I’m going to tell people from now on when they ask me what I weigh. They start out repeatedly punching each other in the face. Beretta has control over the match. Beretta has dominated the match, but Cassidy finally fights back with his signature hands in the pockets. Beretta hits a brutal piledriver and Cassidy ends up outside the ring. Despite Beretta dominating, Cassidy pulls off the pin. After the match, Beretta proclaimed he’s done and left through the crowd.
Match time: 16 minutes
Prediction record: 6-0 (I’m pretty good at this).
9:00 p.m. AEW Women’s champ “Timeless” Toni Storm vs. Serena Deeb
The skinny: This isn’t the greatest of rivalries, but Deeb is a savvy veteran who has never held AEW’s highest women’s title. Deeb became the No. 1 contender on the May 1 episode of Dynamite, defeating Mariah May after Storm threw in the towel. Storm hopes the crowd will be seeing black and white after the match, while Deeb hopes Storm will be black and blue — and without the title. Prediction: The title stays in the silent film era with Toni Storm.
The match: As always, Luther and Mariah May are outside the ring. Good, fast-paced start. As it’s gone on, it’s slowed a bit. Deeb has taken control. Luther is getting a “let’s go Toni” chant going, much to Deeb’s surprise. Toni Storm breaks a submission hold in a way I’ve never seen in 40 years of watching wrestling: she carried Deeb to the ropes and bit the middle rope, forcing the break. Toni Storm has shown some pretty good wrestling skills. Storm locks in the Clover Leaf but Deeb fights to the ropes. Deeb regains control. The crowd is chanting for Toni Storm, and Deeb looks confused. Deeb tries to submit Storm and May wants to throw in the towel. Luther stops her, but Storm thinks Luther was going to throw in the towel. Storm hits her signature finishing pile driver, but Deeb kicks out. Deeb hits Storm’s pile driver on Storm. She hits a second. But Storm kicks out! Storm hits her pile driver from the top turnbuckle, then hits a second in the middle of the ring and she wins.
This match wandered at times, but the final 5 minutes was highly entertaining. I don’t give grades, but I’d give the end of that match an A.
Match time: 15 minutes.
Prediction record: 5-0
8:39 p.m.: Unified AEW World Trios Championship
Champions Bang Bang Gang (Jay White and Colten and Austin Gunn) vs. Death Triangle (Pac, Penta El Zero Miedo and Rey Fenix)
The skinny: The Bang Bang Gang took the belts from The Acclaimed in April, ending the longest run in the title’s history. Now, they hope to defend the titles against the recently reunited Death Triangle, the team that was the first to hold the title. Prediction: This may be just the beginning of this feud, but the Bang Bang Gang will retain the belts.
The match: Begins at 8:43 p.m. Pac dominates both Gunns early. Pac is ripped. Not too many carbs in his diet to be sure. DeathTriangle dominate Austin Gunn. They have great teamwork. Penta and Fenix fly outside the ring to take down the Gunns. Pac is dropped awkwardly with a DDT by White but he seems OK. The match has slowed significantly as the champs work over Pac. Pac finally gets out and the momentum changes. Juice Robinson returns and interferes and the Bang Bang Gang retain the titles.
Match time: 14 minutes.
Prediction record: 4-0
8:25 p.m.: Adam Cole hits the ring, then MJF hits him in return
He starts with storytime. He tells Las Vegas they suck. As he berates the crowd, the lights go off, and when the come back on, it’s MJF. He gets a huge pop from the crowd. As they stare at each other, a chant of “Holy S***” and “You f***ed Up” aimed at Cole filled the arena. MJF starts to exact revenge by laying waste to Adam Cole. MJF proclaims he’s only trusted one person — Cole — and now he’ll never do it again. He says his tagline ending in “I’m better than you, and you know it.” He then says he doesn’t need New Japan or Vince McMahon to make MJF, he made himself. He’s driven by hate. He’s also got a foul mouth. And then he beats up a devil’s mask. He ends things by making it known he will be remaining with AEW despite rumors to the otherwise. He says “I’m not f*****g leaving!!!” The segment ends at 8:37 p.m. with his music.
8:02 p.m.: First match: AEW International champion Roderick Strong vs. Will Ospreay
Ospreay comes out first to much fanfare. The people love this guy. Strong, not so much. He is accompanied by Mike Bennett and Matt Taven.
The skinny: Strong has held the title since Revolution in March. Ospreay is on the rise, showcasing some of the best in-ring talents in the company. This one should be fast-paced entertaining. Prediction: Ospreay wins and Strong joins the AEW title hunt.
The match: It’s going to be 3-on-1, so Ospreay is attacking anyone that moves. Much of the early match is outside the ring. Strong takes control after outside interference led to Ospreay being dropped on his head outside the ring. He landed awkwardly, but seems to be OK. After being dominated for several minutes, Ospreay finally gets some offense. But the outside interference continues to be a problem. Now Wardlow has arrived. Ospreay hits a sky-twister from the op rope to the outside on Wardlow, Bennett and Taven. Now those three are removed by security. The match has become much more even.
Ospreay is exciting through the air, but Strong is showcasing some nice technical wrestling. It’s a much better match now that the Three Stooges are gone. To their credit, 15 minutes in, these guys are beating the crap out of each other. Great physical exchanges. Ospreay was looking to win but the ref put him in the corner to check on Strong. The match got going again and more great fighting. Ospreay hit the Tiger Driver and won the title.
Match went just over 20 minutes.
Prediction record: 3-0
8 p.m.: It is time!

7:37 p.m.: The Acclaimed and Billy Gunn vs. The Cage of Agony
The Acclaimed (Max Caster and Anthony Bowens) and “Daddy Ass” Billy Gunn take on Brian Cage and the Gates of Agony (Toa Liona and Kaun). Billy Gunn stole my nickname.
Max Caster came to the ring flowing with lyrics. Bowens proclaims: “The Acclaimed have arrived. Scissor me Daddy Ass.” OK, I’ve never said that out loud. Match starts at 7:40.
The Vegas Golden Knights mascot Chance is announced and the fans cheer.
Billy Gunn is 60. It’s insane. We all need to age like him. This is a big, beefy match. It’s been back and forth, but the Cage of Agony has dominated a decent amount of the time. Caster is getting beat down. Billy Gunn’s been down, and announcers speculate Bowens may not be back after being pummeled outside the ring and hurting his leg. Billy Gunn finally got tagged in and cleared house. Still no Bowens. Cage teams takes control again. Bowens finally springs in on one leg and saves Gunn from being pinned. After a back-and-forth exchange, and a distraction by Chance, Billy Gunn wins on an inside cradle. Match took about 13 minutes.
Prediction record: 2-0
7:30 p.m.: Special announcement: Owen Hart Cup winners will get title shots
AEW Tony Khan and Martha Hart. Owen Hart Foundation has reached 25 years of philanthropy. (Crowd starts chant of “Owen.”) Martha turns it over to Tony for the announcement about the the third Owen Hart Foundation Cup tournament. The winners of the men’s and women’s Owens will get World Title shots. The time and place will be in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, July 10, in the hometown of Owen Hart, at All In.
7:12 p.m.: It’s time for Thunder Rosa vs. ‘The Virtuosa’ Deonna Purrazzo
If you’re not watching, go to AEW’s YouTube channel. Or, I’ll keep you updated.
Purrazzo got off to a fast start. Rosa, with her white face paint, has a really cool look with the blue wrestling tights. Rosa took control after launching Purrazzo out of the ring. However, Purrazzo got the momentum back after a well-placed kick to Rosa’s visage. Purrazzo dominated for the next few minutes, and when Rosa tried fighting back, Purrazzo connected with a right hook to the jaw. A great moment when they both got knocked down and went to get up. They stood up forehead to forehead then screamed in each others’ face when they got to their feet. Jeff Jarrett works in a “Princess Bride” reference from out of nowhere. Purrazzo gets caught in a Cobra Clutch, but she rolled Rosa over and grabbed on to the bottom rope to get the 1, 2, 3. The match lasted about 13 minutes.
Prediction record: I’m 1-0.
7:10 p.m.: Toni Storm is … interesting
On April 29, I interviewed “Timeless” Toni Storm on my podcast. She stayed in character, so I tried to have some fun with it. After all, it’s not often you get to speak with a 1920s film star right?
7:05 p.m.: Who’s House?
Next promo is about AEW champion Swerve Strickland and Christian Cage, an interesting matchup to be sure. Cage thrives on being the heel. Strickland is an incredible performer less than a month into his title reign. I interviewed Swerve at the beginning of the year and he’s a magnetic personality. The following week, I interviewed Adam Copeland, who’s been friends with Cage since childhood. He described Cage as a competitor who never gives up. My prediction is Swerve retains the title.
7 p.m.: Moné, Moné, Moné
The top of the hour highlights the match between TBS champion Willow Nightengale and Mercedes Moné. Moné and Nightengale fought in a tournament final in New Japan Pro-Wrestling a year ago with Nightengale coming out on top for the Strong Women’s Championship. Moné broke her ankle during the match, and will return to action for the first time since.
6:59: A blood good promo cut
AEW International champion Roderick Strong and opponent Will Ospreay had a promo video where both were doused in blood. This should be an entertaining match. Be prepared for the crimson mask or two.
6:52 p.m.: Who is Renee Paquette?
Renee Paquette is a backstage interviewer, coming to AEW in 2022. She is married to AEW talent Jon Mosley, and they got married in the very city where they are tonight for the pay-pre-view: Las Vegas.
6:48 p.m.: Who is RJ City?
RJ City is a Canadian actor and professional wrestler who is a backstage interviewer and hosts a weekly comedy talk show on AEW’s YouTube page called Hey! (EW) where he interviews other AEW talent.
6:45 p.m.: Who is Jeff Jarrett?
Jeff Jarrett, aka Double J, got involved in wrestling in 1986. At 56 years old, he’s held just about every major title in every major wrestling company.
He came to AEW on Nov. 2, 2022.
He wields his signature guitar, something that’s been used to incapacitate many a competitor.
6:40 p.m.: Two more matches

The pay-per-view card starts at 8 p.m. ET. A “Buy In” pre-show takes place at 7 p.m. on AEW’s YouTube channel.
Where is Double or Nothing?
For the second time, the location for Double or Nothing will be the MGM Grand on Las Vegas’ famous strip. The inaugural event was held there in 2019. The past two years, it was held at T-Mobile Arena. In 2020 and 2021, it was held at its home base of Daily’s Place in Jacksonville because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

It’s one thing to compete in a steel cage, but can the iconic wrestler pull one out over a much younger competitor surrounded by barbed wire? Prediction: Copeland maintains his edge and retains the title.
- IWGP champ Jon Moxley vs. Konosuke Takeshita. This match isn’t for the title, but if Takeshita wins, he’ll get a shot at a later date. Prediction: Takeshita wins and gets a title shot.
- FTW Champion Chris Jericho vs. Hook vs. Katsuyori Shibata (FTW rules match): The match was set up after a bizarre match ending where Hook and Shibata simultaneously submitted Bryan Keith in a three-way match to determine Jericho’s title challenger. Jericho, once a mentor to Hook, now faces his former protege and the ever-difficult Shibata in what amounts to a no disqualifications match. Prediction: Hooks been getting pushed along since he joined AEW, and his time is now. He takes the title from his former mentor.
- Orange Cassidy vs. Trent Beretta. It’s a tale as old as time: two best friends become bitter enemies. Now, they’ll settle it in the ring. Beretta’s got a bad attitude, bu Cassidy is one of the hardest AEW competitors to pin down. This one should be a real barn burner. Prediction: Cassidy is entertaining and insane, and will beat his former friend.
- “Anarchy in the Arena:” The Elite (Kazuchika Okada, Jack Perry, Matthew Jackson and Nicholas Jackson) vs. Team AEW (Bryan Danielson, Cash Wheeler, Dax Harwood and Darby Allin) (Anarchy in the Arena match). The Elite made a splash in late April when they laid out AEW founder Tony Khan. The injury happened the night before the NFL Draft, and Khan showed up to his dad’s draft night war room wearing a neck brace. The Elite later laid out former friend Kenny Omega. Now, a group of AEW devotees look to put the Elite in their place. Prediction: The Elite maintain their push as top heels and defeat the beloved AEW team. You can bet at some point Tony Khan will have his revenge.
- Unified AEW World Trios Championship: Bang Bang Gang (Jay White and Gunn Club) vs. Death Triangle (Pac, Penta El Zero Miedo and Rey Fenix): The Bullet Club took the belts from The Acclaimed in April, ending the longest run in the title’s history. Now, they hope to defend the titles against the recently reunited Death Triangle, the team that was the first to hold the title. Prediction: This may be just the beginning of this feud, but the Bang Bang Gang will retain the belts.
