LOS ANGELES COLLEGE Of MUSIC NAMED AS ONE OF TOP MUSIC SCHOOLS IN WORLD 2023 BY HOLLYWOOD REPORTER AND BILLBOARD MAGAZINE

PASADENA, CA – November 21, 2023 – The Los Angeles College of Music (LACM) has been recognized by both The Hollywood Reporter and Billboard magazine as one of the best music schools in the world. This year marks the first time the college has been recognized by The Hollywood Reporter and the 6th year in a row Billboard has named the school one of the top music business schools in the world.

LACM’s commitment to providing hands-on experience and networking opportunities for students sets it apart.  According to Billboard, “LACM’s music business program, which offers a 12-quarter bachelor of music degree and a six-quarter associate of arts degree, is committed to offering students hands-on experience and networking opportunities. On average, a student will meet and interact with more than 100 guest speakers and master class guests per year from all facets of the music industry, and the program also features field trips to companies such as Spotify, Hipgnosis, Universal and Disney. Music business department head Erin Workman’s experiences in artist development include working with Zac Efron, Miley Cyrus and Ashley Tisdale.”

“We are thrilled to be recognized by these two respected industry publications as a trailblazer in music education,” said Workman. “Set in the heart of the global entertainment industry, LACM optimizes its location and relationships to consistently offer students unique opportunities, including masterclasses, clinics, and exclusive industry events hosted by respected organizations such as GrammyU and DISCO. Students also have access to the college’s unique “Let’s Talk Music” ongoing guest artist Q&A forums with advice from Moby, Ziggy Marley, Joe Walsh, Linda Perry, Don Was, George Clinton and more.

This is the first year that LACM has debuted on The Hollywood Reporter’s Top Music Schools List. As the publication wrote, “LACM offers a master’s in composing for visual media that aligns with the objective and goals of its master of music program. Applicants must hold a bachelor of music or bachelor of arts in music, must submit an essay on their goals in pursuing a career in music, and students must pass an audition and entrance exams that demonstrate competency at the baccalaureate level. Course highlights include Composer Entrepreneur 1: Collaboration & Communication, which focuses on enhancing the composer relationship with directors, producers and editors, as well as pitching scores. Writing for sync focuses on songwriting and composition for visual media; film score orchestration for live orchestra recording sessions teaches advanced orchestration techniques; and film score mixing explores stereo, surround and immersive mixing and the use of sample libraries.”

The schools listed by Billboard are selected through executive recommendations, alumni information provided by honorees from their multiple power lists, information requested from each school and a decade of reporting on these programs. To achieve The Hollywood Reporter’s school ranking this year, the publication polled the members of Hollywood’s Society of Composers and Lyricists, the Composers Diversity Collective, the Alliance of Women Film Composers, and music branch members from the Motion Picture Academy and Television Academy.
