Louis C.K. Scandal Doc ‘Sorry/Not Sorry’ Acquired By Greenwich Ent. – Deadline

EXCLUSIVE: In one of the first acquisition deals at Toronto, Greenwich Entertainment today announced it has picked up Sorry/Not Sorry, the documentary about the Louis C.K. sexual misconduct scandal and its aftermath, hours after the film’s TIFF world premiere.

The deal covers North American distribution rights to the film directed by Caroline Suh and Cara Mones. Sorry/Not Sorry is a production of The New York Times.

“In 2017, The New York Times published an article in which five women accused comedian Louis C.K. of sexual harassment,” notes a description of the film. “Nine months later, he returned to the stage and went on to win a Grammy in 2021. Sorry/Not Sorry examines the cultural fixation with Louis C.K. and his comeback while revealing the backlash faced by the women who spoke up about his behavior.”

Collider, in its review of the film, wrote, “While there have been plenty of documentaries about beloved actors and comedians that have been brought down by their horrific activities—like last year’s excellent We Need to Talk About CosbySorry/Not Sorry explores a deeper conversation about how normalized shocking behavior has become and if there can or should be a comeback for men like C.K.”

In a statement, Suh said, “We couldn’t be happier to be partnering with Greenwich in the release of Sorry/Not Sorry. Their support means that the film – and the ideas and questions raised in it – will have life and legs after TIFF, which was always our hope.”

Kathleen Lingo, editorial director of film and television at The New York Times and a producer of Sorry/Not Sorry, added, “The film acts as an extension of The New York Times’ 2017 reporting on Louis C.K., expanding the aperture of the story and the voices included. Drawing on the exclusive access and expertise of our newsroom, the film reframes this story to offer new insights and incite provocative discussions on sex and power in the workplace.”

Greenwich’s Andy Bohn negotiated the acquisition with CAA Media Finance on behalf of The New York Times. Financial terms have not been disclosed.

Sorry/Not Sorry is directed by Caroline Suh and Cara Mones and produced by The New York Times and Left/Right. Producers are Caroline Suh and Cara Mones, and Kathleen Lingo for The New York Times. New York Times’ journalists Melena Ryzik, Cara Buckley and Jodi Kantor, authors of the original 2017 article on Louis C.K., serve as consulting producers. Executive producers include Sam Dolnick, Jason Stallman, Ken Druckerman and Banks Tarver. The director of photography is Bob Richman, with an original score by Kyle Scott Wilson. Peter Holmes is the editor.
