Man survives being shot 8 times by ‘friend:’ docs

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A man who believed his friend was taking him to a vehicle he’d recently purchased ended up not with a car but eight gunshot wounds and left for dead in a field, reports say.

Once his “friend” left, the man made his way to a home and called for help.

He identified Rogelio Alvarez as the shooter, according to recently released court documents.

Alvarez, 59, is charged with attempted murder and assault with a gun. He’s being held on $1 million bail and has a preliminary hearing scheduled Tuesday, according to court records.

The shooting happened May 19 in a secluded field in the Bakersfield area, the man told police. Officers were unable to locate a crime scene due to the man not being able to give an exact location, the reports say.

The man suffered the following injuries: three gunshot wounds to his left shoulder; two gunshot wounds to his right shoulder; 1 gunshot wound to his face; 1 gunshot wound to his neck; 1 gunshot wound to his upper back.

Alvarez admitted being at the scene but claimed an unknown person shot the man, according to the documents. He told police he drove away, leaving the man behind, because he was scared.

Alvarez also told police the wounded man had recently stolen from him, according to the documents.
