Country singer Maren Morris believes that country music is being used as a “weapon in culture wars” and blames “the Trump years.” The Grammy-winning singer revealed in a recent interview with the Los Angeles Times that she will not be continuing a career in country music. During the interview, Morris said that,“After the Trump years, people’s biases were on full display.” “They were proud to be misogynistic and racist and homophobic and transphobic. All these things were being celebrated, and it was weirdly dovetailing with this hyper-masculine branch of country music,” explained Morris. In her latest song, The Bridge, the Nashville-based singer reflects on her departure with the lyrics, “The rot at the roots is the root of the problem.”
