The LAPD has confirmed that it is working to find the source of the ketamine that caused Matthew Perry’s death last year. The California branch of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) is working with the LAPD to investigate the circumstances of Perry’s death. The Friends star passed away in October 2023, at the age of 54, and according to his autopsy report, he died due to the “acute effects of ketamine”. Other factors that may have contributed to his death include drowning, coronary artery disease and buprenorphine effects. Perry’s death was ruled accidental and the case was closed by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner. However, LAPD sources confirmed they are working with the DEA to determine the source of the drugs that led to the actor’s death. The source says the investigation began in December 2023, following the release of the coroner’s report. Although authorities have reportedly so far conducted many interviews, no arrests have been made. According to the autopsy, Perry was undergoing ketamine infusion therapy at the time of his death. Matthew Perry wrote about his use of ketamine infusion therapy in his memoir, Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing. Although not FDA-approved, the therapy involves using lower-dose ketamine injections to treat depression and mental health disorders. Perry, who began the therapy in 2020, wrote that it had his name “written all over it—they might as well have called it ‘Matty'”. Perry described the drug as “a giant exhale” but added that the side effects of ketamine meant that it was “not for [him]” . Despite this, the ketamine found in his system was not ingested as part of the therapy program, according to the autopsy report. Why do you think the ketamine was in his system?
